About vonCookie
My how things have changed since 2006 when I wrote this: “I am vonCookie, Graduate Student at large, would-be Writer, full-time Navel Gazer. I’m your average urbanite thirtysomething: overeducated, overdrawn, over it. I live in the Bay Area, a place I’m proud to call home, but only as a transplant — I’m an East Coast girl by birth. I started this blog on another platform back in 2005 with the title “The Trials and Tribulations of a PhD Candidate”; I switched the title when people in my Department found out about the blog, and thus vonCookie was born. “One Tough vonCookie” is a travelogue of my adventures as student, teacher and human; the blog has taught me how to view life through extraordinary lenses. I have discovered, there are miracles in the mundane annoyances of our quotidian existence, and that’s what I’m here to point out. That, and also why Tony Danza sucks so hardcore.
Update for 2010: I am vonCookie, Ph.D. in Spanish Literature, still in the Bay Area, published poet, and, yes, still full-time Navel Gazer. Still an average urbanite thirtysomething, but I no longer take everything for granted and dismiss it in the tragic hipster way that I used to. I still think Tony Danza sucks, but who’s talked about him recently? Right now I am struggling with a horrible academic market, looking for a job, looking for a life. C’mon life! Come get me!
Welcome, one and all, to vonCookieWorld.
Pull up a mat and sit down for a play-date.
Enjoy your time here in vonCookieworld; I certainly do.
best,
vonCookie
Incidentally, “vonCookie” was one of my mother’s nicknames for me when I was born, in case you were wondering.

Since “cookie” was originally a Dutch word, technically it ought to be vanCookie.
