Halloween in the Key of “Low”

I was recently anticipating a very, very high-drama Halloween, filled with unrequited lust, triangular tension, and (worst case scenario) plenty of tears… not to mention drunkenness.  All of this as a consequence of being 19-for-two-days, too much eyeliner, and perhaps that evil, evil man, Johnnie Walker.

Luckily, absolutely NONE of this came to pass.  I got home from my Halloween adventure completely sober, completely sane, and drama-free.  To which I say…

…damn.  I was kind of wanting the drama.  But that’s just the 19yo talking.

I spent the evening handing out candy and reading tarot cards for two friends of mine and having heart-to-hearts under the light of a very intense moon.  All of this, I have to admit, was very satisfying and peaceful, which surprises me a bit.  I did not go in pursuit of the drama, for once.  Although…

…there was one moment in which I could have seized the drama, seized the day, and ruined everything, pissed everyone off by so doing, because there are times when hugs– long, lingering hugs– are very far from innocent.

But I took the high road, so that Halloween could be low key.

And now it’s All-Saints Day, and I’m feeling reflective, remembering those who have died, and wanting to spend the day writing, because many years ago, when I first moved out here to Liberal Paradise, I attended a workshop aimed at teaching us to use our writing to honor the dead.  And considering who in my life has died this year, I need very much to do that today.

Also, let me welcome you all to a month of posting!  Instead of NaNoWriMo, I will be doing NaBloPoMo, in which I will post every day for a month.

Maria Callas, this month’s for you.
